Mill
14" x 11" Acrylic on canvas
(frame not included)
This small historic damn and mill wheel are located in a public park of Reem’s Creek in Weaverville, NC. This once powered a mill, the wheel of which was kept in place and still visible at the site today.
David and I were visiting the Asheville area for our 40th anniversary and met a group of artists who invited me to join them in a paint out on location. Their group is “Preserving a Picturesque America”. They travel around the United States looking for historic places that were drawn by an artist over 150 years ago and recorded in a published book. At each location they seek out artists that will paint along with them at sites they have been able to locate from this book. Some proceeds from the sale of many of these paintings go to preserve various f these historical sites.
This Mill was the first of three paint outs I was able to take part in. The group has come to Chattanooga, Tennessee several times and I have been able to take part in two of them painting at Point Park on Lookout Mountain as well as from the Walnut Street bridge downtown.
