The rose has pedals that seem for me to go on and on. That is why when I decide on a basic color palette for a piece, the colors of my palette make petal variations that aren’t even there. Beginning with “Rose Splash” and “Roses” both an acrylic collage on canvas, and “Varied Roses” and now “Play with Roses”. Somehow I have a bit of fascination with roses it seems?
This set has been painted on 100% cotton watercolor paper. They were both painted alongside the other with painter’s tape dividing them. At various points while painting, I step back and take a picture of each editing out the taped area to see how they appeal to my eyes.
This one really seemed to come together after I mixed all my pallet colors together achieving a neutral greenish gray. Once I wove this color through various areas of the painting the piece landed. With just a touch on a few more pedals, it was pleasingly finished.
